Today marks the first day of Canada's annual baby seal slaughter

Action Alert

Dear Manfred,
Today marks the first day of Canada's annual baby seal slaughter.

With all major markets for seal pelts closed around the world, a $2 million bailout loan from the Newfoundland and Labrador government appears to be the only thing keeping this year's slaughter afloat. As a result of international outrage, all major markets have dried up and the commercial slaughter is now a shadow of what it used to be. The U.S., the European Union, and Russia have all banned seal-fur imports, and Canadian officials admitted last year that China has not panned out as a market—in part because of pressure from animal rights advocates—despite years of efforts.

The end of this industry is in sight, but seals still need you!
Thanks for everything that you do to help animals.

Kind regards,
